Informa already produces a bond information service on XFN called China Watch and intends to provide further products as a result of the investment. Additionally, it will become XFN's official conference arm.
XFN's existing services include financial indices data, credit ratings, company news and equity information - vital for companies with interests in China, whether operating from foreign shores or domestically.
The deal pre-empts China's entry into the World Trade Organisation and as such Informa said it has “an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the increased information needs” relating to business in the country.
Informa refused to detail the exact terms of the investment. XFN's majority shareholder is the Chinese government-run Xinhau News Agency.
Shares have edged higher to 261.5p, capitalising the company at 334m.
