The deal links AltaVista's enterprise search software with Tadpole's Magi P2P technology, which allows collaboration between remote users via the web using banking-grade security. Both companies will market the product as a complementary product to AltaVista's Software Enterprise Search application.
The combined technologies allows users to search, retrieve and share data from corporate databases, PCs or the internet, according to preset parameters determined by an enterprise's IT department.
AltaVista Software executive VP Phil Rugani said: “The teaming of Endeavors and AltaVista takes information accessibility to the next level by providing a truly universal view of information, irrespective of the device, file, format or location.”
A Tadpole spokesman described the agreement as “the first major deal” for Magi 3.0, which Tadpole unveiled two weeks ago.
He said: “AltaVista will effectively act as a sales channel for Tadpole. It will sell Magi to its customer base, which includes some 600 corporate customers. AltaVista are the world's number one search software company, which makes this great news for Tadpole.”
Tadpole generates between $200 to $300 per Magi user based on a 1,000-user installation. Widely respected Bloor Research founder and CEO Robin Bloor expects Magi to become “a leading product in the rapidly emerging market for collaboration technology”.
Shares are 4% higher at 19.75p, capitalising Tadpole at 34m.
