New 186K services offer route to IP

Added:
Feb 28, 2002

The company, which operates a 2,000 km fibre network connecting 20 UK metropolitan centres, will initially target companies already using Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) LANs linked by Frame Relay technology. 186K aims to provide these companies with a migration path to IP VPN and gigabit Ethernet alternatives, which are due to become available in Q2.

186K ATM services offer data rates for voice, video and data traffic at speeds from 2Mbps to 155Mbps. The company recently partnered with Hutchison 3G and NCP Manchester Ltd to roll out metropolitan area networks in Birmingham and Manchester. Through Urband, a joint venture with Thames Water, the company also has access to a London MAN.
