Five new members, including Nokia, Alcatel and Cisco, are to join the Open Source Development Lab in an effort to support Linux usage by data centres and carriers.
The new initiative will see the creation of technical working groups involving the new members, Alcatel, Cisco, MontaVista Software, Nokia and Toshiba, as well as IBM, Intel, Red Hat and SuSE. They will also work on the architecture, service availability and validation of Linux as the basis of a ‘carrier grade platform' for telecommunications networks, as well as integrating Linux functionality into their standard definitions, with the aim of creating a ‘third-party ecosystem' to attract developers to the initiative.
