E-commerce software giants ranked

ATG's Dynamo Commerce Suite 5.0 beta and Intershop's enfinity 1.1 both hold first place. The report found that Dynamo's strengths include the J2EE certification, a powerful development and deployment environment which allows developers to tailor the site for different buying scenarios. Its weakness was cited as poor built-in integration features and the need for advanced Java and XML skills.

Intershop's enfinity was found to have solid order processing and marketing capabilities, good reporting and analysis support, and strong momentum, particularly in Europe. Its weaknesses include the lack of systems integrator support and the current scaling problems of the underlying application server.

Blue Martini's CIS 3.0 placed third in the report for its solid out-of-the-box retail functionality, but the research found that the resulting problem of a packaged approach is the lack of development tools to aid programmers in tailoring the site to meet their specific needs.

Other competing products in the rankings were InterWorld's Commerce Exchange 3.1, Microsoft's Commerce Server 2000 beta, Open Market's eBusiness Suite 2.0, SpaceWorks' OrderManager 4.2, Allaire's Spectra 1.0, BroadVision's One-To-One Commerce 5.0, IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite Pro 4.1.

The assessment was based on each commerce platform's features and capabilities and each vendor's strategy and market support. Forrester and its partner Doculabs conducted laboratory-based product testing and market analysis with vendor and user interviews in the rankings.
