Wipro whips revenues into shape

The company builds, manages and integrates end-to-end ebusiness solutions for international companies. It specialises in software development including building out portal and wireless applications, including Bluetooth solutions. It has developed e-marketplace software with fulfilment capabilities, network management software and enterprise application integration (EAI) functionality. The company's customers reportedly include Nike and Wipro is also believed to have been involved in the development of the browser for NTT DoCoMo's I-mode mobile phones.
IT Services revenues increased 59% for the quarter ending 30 September 2000, to Rs4.209bn (62.1m). It attributes 27% of its total revenue to Europe with 65% of its business originating from the US and 7% from Japan. As a result, the company made a net profit of Rs1,540bn (22.7m), an increase of 162% over the same quarter last year.
The company's R&D services, which contributed almost half of the total revenue, increased 77% compared to Q2 last year. Wipro has technology partners including Vignette, Ariba and Open Market.
