The campaign, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, uses the former stars of the 80s as examples of people who should have managed their money better and asks the question "where are they now?".
In fact the campaign tells us that Bloodvessel, lead singer of 80's ska band Bad Manners, lives on a houseboat; Van Day, who shared the stage with Thereza Bazar in pop group Dollar, runs a burger van; and Hayes, human stooge to Bungle, Zippy and George in Rainbow, is a mini-cab driver.
The three stars are expected by Virgin to remind people they should look after their money and invest it wisely while they have it.
Virginmoney.com managing director Paul Pester said: "We chose celebrities from the early 80s as this will appeal to our core target audience of 30-somethings. With hindsight, all three regret they didn't manage their money better at the time."
The ads, which will run from 4 November for four weeks on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and satellite channels, show the stars promoting virginmoney by extolling the virtues of investing in property, the stock market and in general long-term planning.
