IP backbone provider Carrier1 is to expand its reach in the UK and the US following a deal with broadband and co-location services provider 360networks to buy up capacity on its networks.
Carrier1 will provide 360networks with dark fibre on its German network, and in return 360networks will provide Carrier1 with dark fibre on a 1,150km route it owns in the UK. Carrier1 will then expand its reach beyond Manchester and Birmingham to various other cities including Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol, Nottingham and Cambridge.
The deal, worth $175m, will also allow Carrier1 to expand its broadband reach to the US, by buying up 360networks' transatlantic and US networks.
