The browser intention rumour was raised when RealNetworks used some of Mozilla.org's open-source browser code in a development project for Global Media, a web broadcasting company. RealNetworks has downplayed this development saying that it has used this kind of code previously.
Mozilla.org combines the technical talents of Netscape and AOL employees.
The media player company has had a longstanding rivalry with Microsoft and its Windows MediaPlayer, culminating in RealNetworks's recent licencing of MediaPlayer technology. That move took the technology industry by surprise and raised questions of the possibility that RealNetworks was waving a white flag in the player battle with MS.
