The FTC has requested further details of data collection from the portal giant, which claims to be voluntarily providing information for the investigation. The government probe aims to determine if Yahoo! disclosed user data in violation of federal consumer protection laws.
The inquiry is believed to have arisen after the California Healthcare Foundation produced a report critical of the privacy policies of health websites, including some of Yahoo!'s.
In another legal matter, Nintendo of America, Electronic Arts and Sega of America have allegedly charged Yahoo! with permitting its users to sell illicit copies of video games and illegal devices used to copy video games.
