The study found that responsibility for corporate websites rests with the marketing department in 20.7% of cases, up from 11.5% twelve months ago. This is in keeping with recent findings by Zona Research in the US.
The study estimates that in 1999, 26,3% of Belgian companies spent more than US$2,600 on software, up from 19% in 1998. This year, 21.8% of companies spent more than US$7800 on hardware, up from 15% last year.
The rate at which Belgian companies advertise online remains low, with those who do spending less than US$2,600 on their campaign. Just one in five companies have placed a banner ad.
Around 63% of sites where the end-responsibility lies with the marketing department are successful, compared to 37.3% of sites where responsibility rests with the IT department.
