Nearly 13m people have internet access in Britain and in the first six months of 1999, 20% of these purchased something online, compared to 6% of internet users in 1998.
The NOP study found that 25% of UK users have now disclosed credit card information online, with 80% using their cards to make a purchase.
Three-quarters of those surveyed expect to double the amount of money they spend online over the next 12 months.
