New UK search engine offers months free advertising

UK search engine Oparla is inviting web users to pre-register to its site, ahead of its official launch next week, offering businesses a month’s free advertising in the process.

The site was created by 29-year-old Internet entrepreneur Daniel Jupp, founder of online SEM consultancy Apple Jupp Media Ltd (formerly Top Position).

Launching on April 14, Oparla has been in development for more than 12 months, and lets users rank sites according to relevancy and usefulness.

Registered users will be able to comment on results and message other Oparla surfers requesting information and recommendations.

Users pre-registering will also be entered into a daily prize draw for their chance to win £10 to £1000 in cash.

Oparla will offer advertisers a one month free introduction for businesses and a fixed monthly fee thereafter.

Rather than taking a cost per click and keyword bid approach, web site publishers will be able to advertise their goods and services for a single payment each month.

Jupp said: “Oparla rewards advertisers and users alike by offering monetary incentives to users and affordable, accountable and transparent advertising to publishers.  Those who register and comment on the search results will be helping to shape the development of a search engine in way that previously, was unheard of.”

Pre-registration is free at www.oparla.com, where users can create an account much like a social media profile, enabling them to interact with other Oparla users and comment on sites returned on the results pages.

Jupp added: “We’re reaching a very exciting stage in the creation of Oparla, a search engine that gives back to its users. We have enjoyed a remarkable first couple of months since the beta test was rolled out earlier this year and now look forward to building on the overwhelmingly positive reaction we’ve had from internet users.”

Right to reply: The New Twitter – a sticky, revenue-rich service that blitzes the third-party apps
Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Right to reply: ‘Instant Search’– Google giveth then taketh away
Google has just announced its “streaming search” service, Google Instant, is coming out of limited Beta testing and going live for all users. According to Adam Bunn, Head of Search at leading independent search and social marketing agency Greenlight, when it comes to search engine optimisation campaigns (SEO), some websites may now suffer a drop in traffic.

Guest comment: No rival to the SMS text exists in the market today
SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
