Google is making its AdWords system available on mobile devices with ‘full web browsers’, such as the iPhone and the T-Mobile G1.
Google defines "full Web browsers" as those that can show standard HTML Web pages and support a user completing a purchase through the application.
Advertisers can now choose to run their standard Adwords ads on these devices, as well as create specific campaigns for them and get separate performance reporting.
Commenting on the move, Andrew Grill, Head of Business Development at the mobile advertising company, Gigafone, said: “Google’s announcement will herald some good news for mobile advertisers and marketers, but this should not be seen as an open invitation to bombard consumers with unsolicited advertising.
“On the contrary, this is a demand from our consumers that we take their desires into account, respect their privacy, and apply our business tools more intelligently. The technology is there to make this work, so let’s start consumers, operators and marketers seeing the benefits.”
